Purba Poschim Dokkhin Uttor Ashbei: My film is more about love than Tantra, says director Raajhorshee De
Tantra might be the main force that drives Purbo Poschim Dokkhin Uttor Ashbei. But according to director Raajhorshee De, his film cannot be classified just as a film based on Tantra. The director explains, “It’s like Shakespeare said in Hamlet, that there are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. My film is about the unknown world which does exist, along with the world we all know. A lot of things happen around us which cannot be explained. Sometimes we ignore them, but sometimes we can’t.”

PPDUA, as the film is being referred to on social media, is also about love. It centres around the terminally ill Stuti Sanyal, who takes a train full of patients from Kolkata to Vellore. Stuti has a traumatic past as well, but this train journey brings many surprises to her. She meets a stranger on the train who changes her life forever.

“The stranger narrates to Stuti three tales of life and death, violence and peace, revenge and vengeance. The stories also talk about love and humanity. In a way, they teach Stuti about the true essence of life,” says Raajhorshee. He explains further, “These stories reveal to Stuti the real power of love, a power that encourages her to live again. She finds life and she finds love again. She realises that Love is the biggest Tantra.”

PPDUA stars Arpita Chatterjee, Paran Bandopadhyay, Kamaleshwar Mukherjee, Suchandra Vaaniya, Aryann Bhowmik and others. It releases on 22nd November.
